Morning at campground

8:30 am

Morning  walk. 225 rooms, 100 on ground floor. Easy flat walk

The eastern most Great House in the Park

Wijiji has not been excavated

The Great House was two stories tall

Speculation is that Wijiji was used for visitors, either traders or pilgrims

A mixture of stonework

Wijiji is near the north wall of the canyon

More amazing stone work

Straight wall. Wijiji is not cardinal or solstitial aligned

Close look will reveal the art

Fiigures and handprints

A little closer look reveals more

Handprints say, “I was here” Native Americans believe the spirits are still here

A final look at the masonry

A look back the route towards Wijiji  (background Fajada Butte)

This Great House is closest to the visitor center

Approaching Una Vida. Possibly assigned to the lunar major standstill according to the Solstice Project

There is a great panel up there in the shade

Small wall of Una Vida

Some of the finest petroglyphs in Chaco Canyon

Humans, animals, spirals, astronomical and migration symbols

Another view

Difficult to see in the afternoon glare

Snakes and figures

Located at the mouth of Mockingbird Canyon. 140 rooms at its zenith.

Obligatory selfie with wall

It has never been excavated

Constructed in two major stages. Exquisite masonry work

A cavity where support a log once was

A view through to the south side of the Chaco Canyon.

A detail view of masonry

A vista of the eastern section of Chaco Canyon (Fajada Butte on horizon)

The long back wall

There are two different types of masonry

Plaza with rubble

Hungo Pavi has a Cardinal orientation (N/S) slightly tipped to the southeast possibly an equinox orientation (Solstice Project)

Hungo Pavi had 140 rooms at its height of occupation

Ancient carved steps. This allowed the Chacoans to climb to the top of North Mesa to access the ancient road grid radiating from Pueblo Alto

Another day of new experiences
